The Appalachian Trail is a hiking only footpath that runs continuously from Georgia to Maine. Due to reroutes, the length changes every year. In 2023, the length was 2,198.4 miles. 2024 mileage is expected to be announced early this year. There are 14 states that the AT runs through (Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine).

While usually thought of as a footpath through the woods, there are many unique areas of the Appalachian Trail that run through towns, meadows, swamps, or parks. See images below for interesting sections of the Trail.
